In September 2021, graphic designer Jad Hussein led a book design workshop at the ECV school in Aix-en-Provence. For his selection of references, he asked different designers (Building Paris, Olivier Lebrun and myself) to choose from our libraries between one and three books which have marked our practices, and to write a commentary on them. For my part, I chose two books from my recent purchases that I find exemplary: the first designed by John Morgan and Adrien Vasquez for the architect David Chipperfield, the second by Mevis & van Deursen for the artist Pieter Vermeersch.
You can read the short texts that I wrote on this occasion here (French only).

Immortel is a type family with four variants developed according to the Hippocratic theory of humors that explains these latter through the presence of one of the four principal fluids. Each one is the cause behind the development of a character trait: phlegm represents a lymphatic, sluggish, slow character (Immortel Infra); yellow bile, an angry and prideful character (Immortel Colera); blood, a jovial and warm character (Immortel Vena); and black bile provokes hopelessness and melancholy (Immortel Acedia).
